How German Whispers Works

Neighbouring cells on each green line must differ by 5 or more, which splits every line into alternating low (1–4) and high (6–9) cells — and bans 5 outright. Mark each line cell low or high and half the work is done. Distinctive, polarising, and great training for candidate discipline.

Standard Sudoku Rules Still Apply

Like all Sudoku variants, German Whispers builds on the classic 9×9 foundation. Every row, column, and 3×3 box must contain each digit from 1 to 9 exactly once. The variant constraint is added on top of these standard rules, never replacing them.

If you're new to Sudoku, start by learning the basic rules and techniques before attempting variants.
